I'm new to C and C++ programming and I've learn them through books and online tutorials. But all the tutorials I've encountered only provide lessons that teaches us how to take inputs from the keyboard. Is there anyway to write a program that takes input from other I/O interfaces such as serial ports, parallel ports or usb? What are the knowledge that I need and the steps on learning that? I would be very grateful if anyone could provide me some links of the tutorials. Thank you very much.

how can i transfer file(s) from floppy disks and removable disks into a new location before it is completely deleted by the computer... I'm trying to make a similar version of recycle bin since recycle bin doesn't support FLoppy and flash disks... Source code??? Prog. Language??? Explanation???

I have an arduino decimille (a circut board) and it is programmed in C. I sort of learned very basic programming with it but now i need it to input data (the results of an on/off switch) into a database. What free database programs can i use that will accept input from a program written in C?

This is a general (business/computer) program offered 9-12 (three to four year requirement). Students are learning basic computer features (IC3 certifications), Microsoft Office (MCAS certifications). I need to offer these students a year of programming. What do you think would be beneficial to help them get a taste from programming. These students will not have any prior computer programming knowledge. I do not want to scare them. Plus remember this is an inclusive classroom.
