I am considering to buy a machine to do video authoring and I don't know if a good expensive pc with a powerful graphics card, 4GB of ram and a powerful processor is enough. Should I buy a MAC? I don't want to spend money on a MAC however and is it easier to upgrade a PC thus I am leaning towards a PC what do you think?

Resolved Question: Authoring a video file to burn to a DVD - H264 video all flickery when on DVD? (Answers: 1) (Comments: 0)
Date Posted: 2011-07-17 21:32:48
I made a video encoded with the x264 codec. I then authored the video using DVD Flick. I then burned it to a DVD, but when I play it on my DVD player, it is quite flickery? Is this because it is encoded in h264? If so, what should I use to encode the video file?
Thanks.

Resolved Question: What is the best format/codec to use to record video from a VCR to later put onto DVD using an authoring prgm? (Answers: 1) (Comments: 1)

I have a pretty basic video capture card, and I want to record video from analog (VCR), to then use DVD Lab Pro to create a DVD from that video. What is the best codec/format to use in VirtualDub, or any other capturing program you might recommend? What would yield the best end quality DVD? Any other tips/hints/advice you might have on this subject would also be greatly appreciated.

Resolved Question: What video editing / DVD authoring software should I use? (Answers: 5) (Comments: 0)
Date Posted: 2010-02-08 13:47:45
I have taken on a rather large project: I am creating a digital copy of all of my in-laws' home videos. I have a VHS to DVD recorder, so I am using that to copy the video to DVD. Now I want to compile all of the clips of each child, and put it onto a DVD (or collection of DVDs) for that child.
I will need some basic video editing software (clipping and combining clips mostly) and some DVD authoring software. Is there a software package out there (free or commercial) that will let me do both? One of the key features that I am looking for would be the ability to tag each video clip with a bunch of key words (ie Blake, Sarah, Musical) so that I can find all of the clips with blake in them, or all of the clips with sarah in them, etc.
What are your recommendations? I am willing to buy software that I think will greatly streamline the process, but am definitely open to reliable freeware options. Thank you for any suggestions.
Windows movie maker is VERY basic. I am managing a very large project here, (It will be over 100 hours of video on about 50 DVDs) and WMM doesn't seem like it is set up to manage more than one video at a time.
One of the features I am most interested in is organizing my clips by label, as I mentioned.
